About the Campaign
Since 1982, Wisconsin has protected lesbian, gay and bisexual people from discrimination in housing, employment and public accommodations. Some people don’t know that we were the first state in the country to pass a law saying that you can’t be evicted, fired or harassed in public places because of who you love. Even more people don’t know that you can still suffer all of those terrible harms because of who you are – if you are transgender – in Wisconsin.
That’s why we believe it’s time to update and modernize our state laws to add nondiscrimination protections based on gender identity and expression. Until the day that all transgender Wisconsinites are protected by law, we stand to lose.
Wisconsin Businesses for Equality is a partnership of the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce and Fair Wisconsin created to spotlight both major employers and small businesses in Wisconsin that support efforts to end discrimination based on gender identity and expression.
We are working with Wisconsin businesses to build support for policies that prohibit discrimination based on gender identity and expression in the workplace, and we want you to join our coalition of pro-fairness businesses.
By highlighting employers who have respect for diversity as a core value, we will encourage and provide resources to Wisconsin employers who understand that diversity brings the skills, perspective and other assets that are essential to establishing a competitive workforce.
